Hey DIY Queen,
I'm Jade Compston!
I'm fiercely dedicated to helping women create a life and home they love, through DIY and creativity.
Have you ever stared at a blank wall and thought, This room needs something… but what?
Or walked past that wobbly table for the 100th time and sighed, One day I’ll fix that.
Or dreamed of restyling that room in your head but stopped yourself with I wouldn’t even know where to start.
Yep, I’ve been there too. And now?
I teach thousands of women how to go from
DIY dreamer to DIY QUEEN. 👑
But let me be clear....
I didn’t go to design school. I’m not a qualified tradie. And I’ve definitely made my fair share of oops-that-was-not-supposed-to-happen mistakes.
Everything I know, I learned through sheer determination, a lot of trial and error, and a refusal to believe that DIY is just for the “experts.”
And now, I get to teach YOU how to create a home you love, build confidence in your skills, and take control of your space—one power tool at a time.
So, grab a cup of coffee (or a wine, I won’t judge), and let’s chat about how I got here.
I wasn’t always the tool-wielding, furniture-flipping, home-transforming woman you see today. I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life.
I left school at 17
because I was more passionate about moving forward and creating something for myself than sitting in a classroom figuring out how to get the best enter score so that I could get a degree I wasn’t even sure I wanted.
I hated the structure of school and believed I could achieve more myself so I jumped headfirst into the real world and let me tell you this was a very controversial decision. Everyone told me I was crazy and that I would very much regret the decision to leave school! (But I’ll let you in on a little secret , I don’t regret it, not even for 1 day!)
I worked in retail
I worked in administration, I worked in Financial Planning. I worked in a legal office. I even worked as a pole dancing instructor—yes, really! (And let me tell you, that job gave me more confidence and strength than any office job ever did!) But no matter what I tried, nothing felt like it fit perfectly.
But one thing that never changed—no matter how many jobs I tried—was my obsession with homes. It didn’t matter what my “official” job title was; the second I clocked out, I was knee-deep in a DIY project, rearranging furniture like a game of Tetris, or creating vision boards that looked like Pinterest had exploded.
And when I worked as a Conveyancer in property law? Oh, that was like getting the backstage pass to the real estate world. I got to peek behind the curtain at all the juicy details—planning permits, subdivisions, building restrictions—it was like reading the rulebook to Monopoly, but in real life. And the best part? I got to snoop (legally, of course) on what people bought their homes for and what they sold them for. Let’s just say, I loved being deep in the back end of the property world. But all the sitting around at an office desk still had me hoping that I could get my hands a little more dirty day to day.
Now, I have to give credit where it's due.
My dad—his name is Noel, but in our family, we lovingly call him ‘Know-it-All’—is the one who taught me how to use power tools. He’s an electrician by trade but also a wizard at fixing anything and everything. If it needed to be built, repaired, or wired up, he could do it (except plumbing... plumbing is not his specialty, and we’ve all agreed to never speak of that one time again).
My mum, on the other hand, had an incredible eye for styling. While my dad did the heavy lifting during renovations, she transformed the spaces into something out of a magazine. And me? I was right in the middle, learning, watching, and soaking up every skill I could.
Put those two influences together and BOOM! My love for DIY was born.
I bought my first house when I was 18 years old.
Since then, I’ve renovated multiple homes—some for myself, some with my parents, and some that I bought, flipped, and sold. I learned everything the hard way—through trial, error, and sheer determination. I wasn’t born knowing how to use a circular saw. I wasn’t handed confidence in a toolbox.
I built it.

Then something crazy happened...
I started sharing my projects online, and suddenly women from all over the world were asking me:
And I realized something HUGE!
Most women WANT to learn DIY…
but don’t know where to START.

They walk into a hardware store and feel overwhelmed.
They believe they need some special “handy person” gene to use power tools.
They’re scared of messing up, so they don’t even try.
And I get it.
Because I used to feel that way too.
So, I Decided To Change The Game.
I created an online course called Power Tool Queens and my entire online DIY learning platform to give women a fun, welcoming space to learn—without fear, frustration, or feeling like they don’t belong.
Here you can learn power tools, painting, upcycling, home styling, organising, and all things DIY. And let me tell you…
Seeing women like you go from “I could never do that” to “Look what I just built!!!” is the BEST feeling ever.
Never in my life did I image that this would be what I get to do everyday. 17 year old me would be proud.
So, what do YOU want to learn?
