Jun 03, 2025
Looking for a fun, beautiful, and budget-friendly DIY decor idea? These DIY hanging flower balls are perfect for bedrooms, events, or any space that needs a little floral magic. Using affordable faux flowers and hanging baskets, I created two completely different looks—and I'm obsessed with how they turned out!
Below, I’ll show you exactly how I made them, step-by-step, with tips for using leftover materials.

Knife
Scissors
PROCESS:-
I created this one for my daughter’s room, so I went with deep blues and crisp whites to suit her space.
Step 1: Choose Your Flowers
I headed into Bunnings and browsed through all the beautiful faux floral options. There were so many to choose from! I ended up picking a mix of deep blue flowers and soft whites for this first piece.
Step 2: Prep the Hanging Baskets
I used two wire hanging baskets and kept the coconut fibre insert in them. I trimmed it slightly to sit snugly inside the frame.
Step 3: Secure the Structure
Using cable ties, I attached the insert to the wire frame, and then cable-tied the two baskets together—flipping one upside down so they formed a full sphere shape.
Step 4: Add the Flowers
I used a knife to poke small holes through the insert, then pushed the flower stems through the holes to secure them. No glue needed!
I worked my way around the entire ball until it was fully covered in florals.
Step 5: Attach the Chain
Once complete, I clipped the original chain back in place so I could hang it from the ceiling. So simple—and it made such a statement!
🍃 Hanging Flower Ball 2: Greens & Whites

Ivy Garland
PROCESS -
I had a bunch of leftover flowers and foliage from the first flower ball, so I didn’t want anything to go to waste. This second version came together beautifully with a nature-inspired palette of greens, whites, and ivy.
Step 1: Start With Ivy
I removed the insert and then wrapped an ivy garland throughout the basket, threading it in and out through the wire frame to create a soft base.
Step 2: Fill With Florals
Next, I added in white flowers followed by green hydrangeas for fullness and texture. I used all the leftover leaves and stems from the first project to bulk it out.
Step 3: Assemble and Finish
Once the cage was filled out evenly, I clipped the chain back on and gave it a final fluff.
✨ The Final Look
Both hanging flower balls turned out absolutely stunning—and totally unique in style. One is bold and dramatic, the other soft and earthy.
They’re perfect for bedrooms, playrooms, events, or even outdoor spaces.
