Lounge Room Makeover: Texture, Mood & A Touch of Luxury

Jun 23, 2025

I’d been feeling as though I wanted a new vibe in my lounge room for quite a while.

The wall behind the TV was painted black, which gives a cinema room vibe, but it also feels a bit flat.

I don’t hate it, but it isn’t giving me the luxury meets relaxation feeling I am after—especially in a room that’s supposed to be my personal retreat after the chaos of work and parenting.

So I set out to keep the moodiness but elevate it with layers, texture, and warmth.

I started by clearing the space completely. Once the wall was empty, I primed it with a coat of white to prepare it for what came next: picture frame moulding.

I measured, cut, and installed timber trim directly onto the wall to create a classic panelled effect.

There’s something timeless about framing that instantly lifts a space—and honestly, the process is super satisfying. Watching those clean lines go up one by one gave me that “okay, we’re onto something here” feeling.

I painted over the timber moulding with the primer to blend it into the wall, then went in with a limewash-style paint to add texture and depth.

The limewash added that soft, chalky finish I love—something that feels high-end without being high-maintenance. It gave the wall life and movement, while still keeping the room calm and moody.

The whole effect was subtle, tonal, and layered… exactly what I’d hoped for.

Once the paint dried, it was finally time for the pièce de résistance: the new Hisense U7 75" Mini-LED TV. My husband helped me mount it (because let’s be real—there was no way I was lifting that on my own!).

We carefully plugged everything in and sat it within the custom frame. It instantly felt like the TV belonged there—like it was built into the room, not just added to it.

One of the first things I noticed was how sleek the TV looked on the wall.

The slim profile meant it sat almost flush, which made my framing job look even more polished. I loved that it wasn’t bulky or distracting—it blended in beautifully with the design of the room.

When I turned it on for the first time, I genuinely paused.

The screen lit up instantly, and the picture quality? Bright, crisp, rich in contrast—even with the room lights still on.

I’d read about the Mini-LED tech, but seeing it in action was something else. The blacks were deep, the highlights were sharp, and the colours popped in a way that made everything feel more cinematic. It was giving home theatre vibes without needing the full setup.

As someone who’s often multitasking, I appreciated how intuitive the menu was. I was able to log in, find my streaming apps, and get watching without a tech-induced meltdown (you know the kind).

The surround sound made a noticeable difference too—especially for someone like me who usually skips the soundbar and hopes for the best. Even in a bigger room like mine, the audio felt layered and full, like the sound was travelling around me—not just coming from one spot.

And then there’s the detail. I’ve been rewatching Suits lately (don’t judge—it’s iconic), and I noticed things I’d never picked up on before. The sharpness, the skin tones, the depth—it made the show feel brand new again. Apparently, that’s the Hi-View AI Engine at work, remastering things in real time. Whatever it’s doing, I’m here for it.

Now.. to create the luxury but calming vibe with the styling. I added an occasional chair to the corner with a floor lamp and then a whole lot of indoor plants, some fake, some real to bring that relaxing vibe in.

As a self-employed mum, I don't get much time to sit down and do nothing. The days are full of school runs, emails, DIY projects, dinner-making, and a million other tabs open in my brain.

So when I do finally get the kids to bed and clock off for the night, I need a space that feels calm, comforting, and a little bit indulgent.

This room has become that space for me. It’s no longer just a lounge—it’s a mood. Whether I’m watching a show, sipping tea, or just zoning out to the quiet hum of background music, this space gives me permission to pause. And while the new wall design sets the scene, it’s the TV that makes it feel complete.

One thing I didn’t expect to love as much as I do is the Art Mode.

When the TV’s not in use, I can display artwork instead of leaving a blank screen up on the wall. It keeps the space styled and intentional even when no one’s watching TV. Also… the solar-powered remote? Genius. One less battery-operated thing to deal with in my life.

So….. If you’re looking for a way to refresh your living room—or if you’ve been meaning to upgrade your TV but haven’t known where to start—I can honestly say the Hisense U7 has exceeded my expectations.

It’s stylish, functional, and packed with thoughtful features that actually make a difference in everyday life.

This makeover has reminded me that tech and design can co-exist beautifully—and that creating a space that feels like home doesn’t have to mean compromising on comfort, style, or sound quality.

You can explore the full Hisense U7 range and sizes here (they go all the way from 55" to a massive 100", if you're feeling bold!).

I hope this transformation inspires you to create a lounge room that feels like your own personal retreat—because we all deserve a space to truly unwind.
